Anyway, any advice on what version of Acrobat - basic version, for home use - will work on Mac OS 10.6.8?? Thanks again, Glen. This does not sound too good. It looks to me as if you would have bought Acrobat 8 or 7. It would be very good if you have the original media and the serial number If you have Rosetta installed, any version since Acrobat 5 works under 10.6.8 (actually, that's my setup). Whether you get Pro or Standard will depend a lot on what you are actually intending to use Acrobat for. IMHO, if you are not in a corporate environment, I would not bother about Standard, but get Pro, because it does offer most variety of use, but YMMV, and you should have a look at the feature comparision chart on the Adobe website. Hope this can help. Yes true App Store has been in the Apple menu for quite some time, but most Mac users associate software updates with “Software Update” more than App Store (same with iOS for that matter, notice how Settings > General > Software Update is the path, not Settings > App Store on the iPhone). As a Mac user, it's likely that at least some of the apps you have didn't come from the Mac App Store. While you can just to download the latest version of your store-bought apps, updating third-party software from outside the Mac App Store can require a little more effort. While these instructions don't hold true for every non-App Store Mac app, here are the common ways of keeping these apps up-to-date. • • How to update a non-App Store app Checking for an update often requires just a quick trip to the Menu bar. • Open your chosen app. • Click your app's name in the Menu bar at the top of the screen. • Click Check for Updates. • Click Download and Install if there is an available update. How to setup automatic update checks Setting automatic update checks removes some of the mental load of maintaining your favorite apps. • Open your chosen app. • Click on your app's name in the Menu bar at the top of the screen. • Click Preferences. • If available, click the Update tab in the app's Preferences window. In some apps, you may have to head to a tab labeled Advanced. • Check the box next to something like Check for updates or Check for updates automatically. • If available, choose an option for how often the app should check for new updates, usually hourly, daily, weekly, and monthly. Word 2016 for Mac Word for Mac 2011 Word can display color-coding for character styles, paragraph styles, linked paragraph styles, and manual formatting that is applied throughout your document. Color-coding enables you to quickly differentiate between text that is formatted by using styles, and text that is formatted manually. Color-coding also makes it easy to find and correct text to which styles were applied inconsistently. For example, text in the 12 point Cambria font and text formatted using the Normal style, which by default also uses the 12 point Cambria font, look identical. One important difference, however, is that text that is formatted by using a style can be quickly and globally changed to a different font. If you later decide to change the font, for example, each instance of text that you've formatted manually must be updated individually. • On the View menu, click Print Layout. • On the Standard toolbar, click Show or hide the Toolbox, and then click Styles tab. • Do one of the following: To Do this See where styles are used in the document Select the Show Styles Guides check box. See where manual formatting was applied in the document Select the Show Direct Formatting Guides check box. • Styles guides and direct formatting guides • • Styles guides, which map styles to text • Direct formatting guides, which show manually formatted text.
